​Is 'The Last of Us' coming in 2023?

HBO is picking it up, and concept art for the multiplayer game has been unveiled.

The Last of Us might dominate 2023.

Naughty Dog has unveiled concept art for the new multiplayer game as the HBO series based on the first game is due to premiere. The painting is great, as expected. Wild. Amazing.

The Last of Us will feature:

Cruise ship concept illustration for multiplayer
Naughty Dog, which produced the first game in 2013, released concept art for the new multiplayer game on Tuesday (more on that in a bit).

The artwork shows a cruise ship aground in a city, surrounded by damaged buses and buildings. Two people approach the ship.

Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, claimed the game "is shaping up to be a fresh, new experience from our studio"

It's Naughty Dog's second multiplayer concept illustration.

The earliest concept illustration showed two armed players on a rooftop viewing a devastated cityscape with a suspension bridge in the distance.

Original game Factions mode split players into Hunters and Fireflies. (Many call the new game Factions after the 2013 multiplayer game, but Naughty Dog hasn't) Survival was the goal.

In 2023, the series turns 10.
The Last of Us debuted on PS3 in June 2013. It was praised for its plot, gameplay, and horrifying images of a destroyed Earth filled with mutated, zombie-like humanity.

The series follows Joel, who lost his daughter to a fatal fungus, and Ellie, who is resistant to the virus. Joel tries to persuade Ellie to the Fireflies, a cure-searching group.

The Last of Us sold 37 million games.
Druckmann said The Last of Us has sold 37 million copies by December 2022.

The series contains 2014's The Last of Us Remastered for PlayStation 4, 2015's Left Behind expansion pack, and 2020's Part II.

2022's PlayStation 5 releases The Last of Us Part I. March for Windows PC.

"Knowing that so many of you love Joel, Ellie, and our entire ensemble drives the company forward," Druckmann stated.

HBO's series premieres Jan. 15
All this is happening as the game's live-action HBO series debuts.

The Last of Us premieres on Jan. 15 and stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, and Anna Torv.
